Beskar: I Thought I Could Make It & Failed Hard

Beskar. That shiny, mythical metal from Star Wars that makes Mandalorians look so badass. Every time I saw a Mandalorian standing there, chest puffed out in that impossibly shiny armor, I thought, “Hey, I could totally do that. Forge my own Beskar.” Spoiler alert: I couldn’t. Not even close.

Anyway, here’s the kicker. I thought I had what it took to work with Beskar — I mean, how hard could it be? Well, I learned the hard way that making stuff out of Beskar is a lot harder than it looks.

The Siren Call of Beskar

So, I had this grand idea. I’d get my hands on some of this elusive metal and create something epic. In theory, it seemed like a fun challenge. Beskar’s tough, durable, and, well… Mandalorian. Who wouldn’t want a piece of that?

The more I learned about Beskar, the more I got hooked. It’s basically a metal that can stop blasters, resist lightsaber strikes, and has more cultural significance than a vintage Star Wars collector’s item. Cool, right? You see these pieces of armor, gleaming in the light, and you think, “Hell yeah, I can make something like that.”

I thought, “I can totally forge a piece of Beskar!” Big mistake. Massive mistake.

The Problem with Beskar

The first problem: I couldn’t even find a piece. This stuff is rarer than a unicorn at a petting zoo. I thought I could get a little scrap of it, no biggie. Turns out, the Mandalorians don’t just give their Beskar away.

I was lucky enough to find a small chunk through some connections—a friend of a friend of a cousin who may or may not have connections with a shady dealer in the outer rim. Yeah, sketchy. And of course, it cost me an arm and a leg. The price? Ridiculous. I’d spent more on this chunk of Beskar than I’ve spent on a full year’s worth of rent.

But, Whatever, Right?

Once I finally had it, I thought, “Alright, this is gonna be easy.” Fast forward through a couple of failed attempts to heat it up. You know how sometimes when you’re crafting with materials, you think it’s gonna go one way, and then it absolutely doesn’t? Yeah. That was my life with Beskar.

I’m no stranger to metalworking — I’ve made my share of pieces before, from copper knick-knacks to basic sculptures. But Beskar? This was something else. The first time I tried to heat it up, I felt like a total amateur. It wouldn’t budge. The metal was unyielding, tough as nails. I had some fancy equipment, too, but nope — the Beskar just stared back at me like it was laughing.

The Tools I Didn’t Have

Turns out, you need some serious tools to work with Beskar. We’re talking about furnaces that can handle crazy high temperatures, tools that I didn’t have and didn’t realize I needed. And guess what? My regular forge? Yeah, not gonna cut it. So there I was, standing in front of a stubborn chunk of Beskar, and my tools were basically useless.

The first time I attempted to shape the metal, I almost lost my fingers. I didn’t exactly burn them, but let’s just say my tools slipped, and I might’ve yelled a little. Anyway, it didn’t go as planned. The Beskar didn’t bend, didn’t soften — it just mocked me with its unbreakable perfection.

My First Big Oops Moment

After a few more failed attempts — and a minor explosion when I accidentally over-heated the metal — I realized I needed to re-evaluate everything. Was it me? Was it the metal? Was it a combination of both? Probably both.

I had thought I could just throw myself into it, be all “creative genius” and have it work. I mean, how hard could it be to craft some armor? Apparently, very, very hard.

The Mandalorian Way Isn’t for Amateurs

Here’s the thing: I wasn’t just trying to make a random piece of metal; I was trying to shape Beskar. The Mandalorians don’t just craft this stuff casually. They have a whole culture around it. Fun fact: Did you know that the Mandalorians never forge their Beskar without fully respecting the metal’s origins? It’s a whole spiritual process. Y’know, not just popping it in a furnace and hoping for the best.

Mandalorians believe that forging Beskar requires patience, skill, and a deep understanding of the metal. This wasn’t just about creating a cool piece — it was about forging a connection with Beskar. But me? I was trying to rush through it like I was making scrambled eggs for breakfast. Spoiler alert: Scrambled eggs = easy. Beskar = not easy.

The Point Where I Had to Admit Defeat

It took me a while to get here, but eventually, I had to face the facts: I wasn’t cut out to be a Mandalorian armor smith. Not today, not tomorrow, and probably not anytime soon.

Things I Should’ve Done Differently

  • Research: Yeah, I didn’t do enough of it. If I had read more about Beskar and how the Mandalorians handle it, I would’ve understood that it’s a serious craft.
  • Patience: I mean, seriously. I wanted to rush the process. Beskar doesn’t work like that. It takes time.
  • Better Tools: Big mistake, trying to use my regular forge. You need some serious equipment to melt this stuff.

So yeah, I learned the hard way that Beskar isn’t for casual hobbyists. This metal deserves respect. It’s not something you just pick up and work with like you’re welding scrap iron together.

The Fun Part: What’s Next?

Am I done with Beskar? Nah. The dream of crafting something out of it isn’t totally dead. I’m just… adjusting my expectations. Maybe I’ll hire a pro to help out next time. Or maybe, just maybe, I’ll stick to simpler projects — like, I dunno, maybe not setting my kitchen on fire with a forge?

Will I Try Again?

You bet. I’ll be back. Maybe I’ll save up for the right tools, read a few more books on the subject (paging Mandalorian Forge Techniques), and actually pay attention this time. I’ll give it another shot, but next time, I’ll be wiser. And a little bit humbler.

Final Thoughts: It’s About Respecting the Craft

At the end of the day, working with Beskar isn’t about just having the right tools. It’s about understanding the craft. You need to earn the right to forge Beskar. It’s not something to be rushed or underestimated. The Mandalorians didn’t get good at it overnight, and neither should I.

So, yeah. I failed. But the next time I try, I’m gonna take my time, respect the Beskar, and maybe (just maybe) avoid setting my garage on fire again.
